Where do I begin???

Looking through my posts and wrestiling with what the Lord has been showing me has brought me to a new place in ministry. I think that this transition and growth have been good. It has left me with quite a few questions and slowly but surely through prayer and the counsel of others the answers are coming. Read the rest of this entry »

I just called to say “He qualified you!”

Well again some very stimulating discussion going on at the SMP. Church plans, plans of attack, vision statements, policies and standards. Really great stuff, but without the calling it is all rubbish. I know the guys at the SMP know this but do we as the guys who assist them. Do we see people for the potential we want for them or for where they are in Christ? Are we looking for help so desperately that we will throw anyone with an inkling of potential at one of our ministries. I know that we don’t have crystal balls or that everyone can be fooled, but that doesn’t excuse us from our responsiblity. If they aren’t who we thought they were then we pray. I think we continue as we have been and those that don’t show the call, or quite get it we pray for them. We pray with a fervency like nothing else, and either the Lord will grow them deeper or cut them off. I nor you are the Holy Spirit; ours is to follow, serve, and to do so without abandon. When we see it like that I think we realize that our issue is usually one of submission and not one of qualification.

Ministry, what a strange term.  Check out some of Googles definitions:

  • Ministry is an industrial metal band of the 1980s, 1990s and onward. (Not my Favorite one
  • the duties and services of a minister (Well …. duh!!)
  • A Government department that deals with all functions under a particular portfolio assigned to a Minister. Its administrative head is the Permanent Secretary, who is responsible to the Minister. (A little too wordy)
  • Gospel-inspired activity (generally referring to an individual rather than a group), with an emphasis on the attitude and approach brought to it. (Getting Warmer) Read the rest of this entry »
